Covid-19 Information

What will happen if you child falls unwell?

If a child begins to display any of the symptoms of Covid19, a phone call will be made requesting you to collect your child as soon as possible. You will also be asked to collect any siblings within the school.

At Holwell, the safety of our children and staff is of vital importance. If a child displays any of the symptoms outlined below or seems unwell, you will be asked to collect.

Symptoms of Covid 19 in a child:

  • High temperature
  • New, continuous cough
  • Loss of taste and smell

If your child has diarrhoea or an upset stomach, a phone call home will be made. Your child will be required to stay at home for a minimum of 48hours. If your child is feeling better after 48 hours, they may return to school.

Please log on to the Covid 19 Website for more information: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus lid=EAIaIQobChMImfTp9oDe6wIVibbtCh3uiw2zEAAYASAAEgLf1PD_BwE

If your child has any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:

  1. Get a test to check if they have coronavirus as soon as possible.
  2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get the test result – only leave your home to have a test.
  1. Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get the result.

If your child has a negative test result they may return to school. Please ensure you communicate with the school regularly.

 Attendance

Attendance is compulsory and important in minimising the longer-term impact of the pandemic on children’s education, wellbeing and their wider development.

If your child or a member of your household does display Covid-19 symptoms or have tested positive in the last 7 days, your child must remain at home. Please inform the school as soon as possible by contacting the main office on 01707 323716.

The school day

The children and staff will be organised into year group bubbles from September. Bubbles will not be allowed to mix. In this way any illness would only affect one bubble and not the whole school. Staff and children will be encouraged to practice social distancing within bubbles and robust hand and respiratory hygiene will be prioritised.

The staggered start and end times, lunch time arrangements and staggered use of playgrounds mean the school day will be restructured slightly. The daily structure for your child’s day is set out below:

Arriving and Leaving school

Please ensure you arrive on time and at the designated gate when dropping off your child. Parents are currently not encouraged to come into school, without an appointment. Members of staff will be located at each gate and around the site to welcome the children and guide them safely to their classrooms. If you are late, you

will be asked to wait until 9.05am, once the final year group have entered the school site safely. When collecting your child, please wait at the designated gate.

To ensure the children are dropped off safely, parents are asked to not wait at the school gate and to follow social distancing guidelines when dropping off your children.

Break and lunch times

Break and lunch times have been staggered through the day to ensure bubbles do not mix. Each bubble will have a zoned area and equipment to play with. The equipment will be cleaned thoroughly after use.

During morning registration, the children will be asked to choose their lunch. The delicious school menu will be available on the school website each week. Please look through the menu with your child and help them to decide their option. Children are allowed to bring a packed lunch from home. They must take this to their classroom in the morning.

Uniform

Children will be expected to wear full uniform from September 2020. Following government guidance, children will be provided with opportunities through the day to be outside so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. P.E lessons will be taking place outside where possible therefore please provide your child with a pair of plain black joggers, plain black jumper and trainers to be worn for outside PE lessons. This PE kit will remain at school. Please check the school website for information on uniform https://www.holwell.herts.sch.uk/parent-partnership/uniform

Equipment

Each child will be provided with a clear, wipeable pencil case with the necessary equipment from September. This will be used solely by your child and will remain at school. Please provide your child with a named water bottle. They will be encouraged to drink plenty of water through the day.

Extra-curricular provision

Breakfast and after-school club will resume from Monday 7th September 2020. Please ensure you book a space for your child using the Schoolcomms Gateway system, as we will be limiting numbers to follow government guidelines.
