Covid-19 Update November 2020
The last few months have been like no other and on behalf of the team at Holwell Primary School, James Dunmore (Chair of Governors) and I, would like to thank you for your support. Following the announcement on Saturday 31st October, we are pleased that schools will be remaining open. However, it is important that we are continuing to put procedures in place to ensure the safety of the children, staff and community of Holwell Primary School.
Self-Isolation and Shielding
Attendance remains compulsory during lock down however we understand that some of our families may be required to self-isolate or shield.
Guidance states that you must self-isolate immediately if:
- You have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
- You've tested positive for coronavirus
- You live with someone who has symptoms or tested positive
- Someone in your support bubble has symptoms or tested positive
- You're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app
- You arrive in the UK from a country with a high coronavirus risk
If your child is unable to attend school due to self-isolating, please contact the main office on 01707 323716 as soon as possible.
Please follow the usual absence procedures if your child is unwell by contacting the main office on 01707 323716 on their first day of absence.
Arriving and Leaving school
The school gates are very busy during drop off and pick up and it is important that we work together to keep our community safe. You must arrive at your allocated time and at the designated gate when dropping off and collecting your child. Parents will not be allowed to congregate and will be asked to move away as soon as possible to allow space for the next year group. If you arrive early, you will be asked to wait on the other side of the road and follow social distancing guidelines. Where possible, please limit the number of adults who will be dropping off to one per child. This will support social distancing around the school gates.
The middle gate (University of Sussex and University of Bath) can become very busy. It is important that social distancing is followed whilst in the queue and where this is not possible, parents will be asked to wait on the other side of the road and join the queue when possible.
Please wear a mask when dropping off and collecting your child.
Uniform – P.E Kit
Children will be asked to wear their PE Kit to school on days they have outdoor PE to support social distancing within classrooms and to ensure that incorrect clothing is taken home by mistake. Please check the school website for information on uniform https://www.holwell.herts.sch.uk/parent-partnership/uniform. The children will remain in their PE kit for the whole day. Children will bring their PE kit home on Wednesday 4th November.
We will still be providing hot meals for our children. Please visit the website to see the selection of delicious meals available. To limit the number of children in the lunch hall, children who bring a packed lunch from home will eat their lunch in their classroom. The children will continue to have staggered lunch and break times with their year group bubbles in allocated spaces around the school.
Breakfast and after-school club will continue to run. Please ensure you book a space for your child using the School Comms Gateway system, as we will be limiting numbers to follow government guidelines.
If your child is required to self-isolate, they will continue their education remotely. Remote learning will be accessed using Google Classrooms and teachers will be uploading work daily for children to complete. A timetable will be uploaded which will inform parents of the activities and tasks that are scheduled.
Each week, children will be expected to complete:
- Daily writing, reading and mathematics lessons
- One science lesson
- One PE activity
- Two Foundation lessons (History/Geography/Art/Design/RE)
- A weekly ‘Terrific Task’ linked to their current topic.
If a year group bubble is required to close, teachers will be providing live lessons. More information will be shared with parents if this occurs.
Please visit our website to read our Remote Learning Policy https://www.holwell.herts.sch.uk/statutory-information and ensure you have returned your child’s permission slip which allows them to access Google Classrooms from home.
