Personal Development and Wellbeing
At Holwell Primary school, we have establishjed a high quality, coherent programme of personal develemont through both the curriuclum and wider oppertunities and experiences we provide for a our children.
Our school leaders have created a coherent and purposeful programme of personal development that is embedded throughout our curriculum and enriched by the wider opportunities we offer. Guided by our RICRAC values, we support every child to become a resilient, independent and curious learner who shows respect, acts responsibly and contributes positively to the world around them. Our approach ensures pupils develop the knowledge, skills and character they need for success in later life, empowering them to grow as confident lifelong learners and responsible members of the community. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is visible across all areas of school life, where they are nurtured, challenged and inspired to thrive both now and in the future.

Relationship, Sex and Helath Education and Personal, Social and Health and Economic (P.S.H.E)
Jigsaw PSHE is our whole‑school approach to teaching Personal, Social, Health and Economic education. It provides a clear, mindful, and progressive curriculum that supports children’s emotional wellbeing, social development, and understanding of the world around them. Through engaging lessons, assemblies, and reflective activities, Jigsaw helps pupils build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships, while also learning important life skills such as managing feelings, celebrating differences, staying healthy, and keeping safe. The programme is designed to nurture the “whole child” and supports our school in promoting a happy, inclusive, and respectful learning community.
Understanding British Values
Our curriculum is designed to develop and deepen pupils’ understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Through assemblies, classroom discussions, and cross‑curricular learning, children explore how these values shape our community and support a fair and inclusive society. We encourage pupils to express their views, understand their rights and responsibilities, appreciate diversity, and build positive relationships, helping them grow into respectful, responsible, and active citizens.

Roles and Responsibilities
Throughout the school, we provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils to take on meaningful roles and responsibilities within the school community. From becoming members of Pupil Parliament, Kitchen Assistants, and eco‑monitors to leading library duties or helping with assemblies, children are encouraged to contribute actively to school life. These experiences help pupils develop responsibility, teamwork and leadership skills, while learning the importance of respect, kindness and active citizenship. By taking on these roles, pupils grow in confidence and understand how they can make a positive difference to both our school and the wider community.

Safeguarding Curriculum
Our safeguarding curriculum is designed to help children learn how to keep themselves safe, both in school and in the wider world. Through carefully planned lessons in PSHE, computing, and across the wider curriculum, pupils are taught about personal safety, healthy relationships, online safety, emotional wellbeing, and how to recognise and respond to risks. Age‑appropriate activities help children build confidence, develop protective behaviours, and understand who they can talk to if they ever feel worried or unsafe. By teaching these skills in a supportive and nurturing environment, we empower pupils to become responsible, informed and resilient individuals who know how to stay safe and seek help when needed.
